RLH: What is a deciduous tree?
Jasper: It’s a tree that loses its leaves and it has orange leaves, and half green and red leaves and some yellow ones but not any pink ones.
RLH: When does it lose its leaves?
Jasper: In the Winter.
Well, given that Jasper is not 5 until August I’m impressed he’s remembered what he has and put the rest together himself. Ok, so he’s missed by a season but given the cold weather and the disappearance of Autumn (between a scorching start and a cold end) I can deal with that.
Today we went for a drive to our friends place at Phoenix Park to borrow their post hole digger (thanks guys) and I saw a beautiful deciduous tree with its golden leaves scattered in a circle under its branches, something that is to others a job that needs doing and leaves of which to dispose but to us, those leaves are treasure. For me, they are great for the garden but for my little pint sized permies, they were so very much more. 🙂
I’m hoping we can collect some grass clippings today to put on top of the leaves before burying them in soil. LOTS of fun opportunities for the kids. 🙂
Oh and if you’re wondering why Orik isn’t in the pictures it’s because the minute his feet tough Phoenix Park soil he makes a beeline for the roads every single time. 😦
